Leaning

Embodiment

Committing weight toward or into a partner — the first step beyond self-supported balance into shared structural dependence. Leaning is the minimum viable experiment in shared balance: simple enough to be the first exercise in any workshop, yet so revealing that decades of practitioners have found it discloses everything about a dancer's relationship to weight, control, and surrender. The angle of lean is a direct physical measure of how much trust exists between two bodies.
